Karolina Jabłońska Leaves, 2023
This work belongs to Karolina Jabłońska’s series of landscape paintings inspired by the Polish countryside. Executed in oil on wooden panel, the work depicts a scene of a wooded landscape where a cascade of leaves appears as the focus of the composition. Unexpectedly, a pink glove rests on the edge, suggesting the presence of a human figure, potentially hiding in the woods behind the mist, or beneath the mountain of leaves.
Appearing as desolate landscapes, in turn drenched, muddy or misty, Jabłońska’s forest scenes often emerge as sites for exploring personal feelings, all the while fully aware of the deceptive straightforwardness of such analogy —and wittily embracing the long history of employing landscape motifs as atmospheric markers. Often incorporating vegetal decorative details in her paintings, Jabłońska’s work is expressive, colorful, and inherently personal.
