Video, wooden beams, framed photographs, electric candles
Duration: 02:31 min
The point of departure for this work is a short video shot in 1992. At the time, a student at primary school, it depicts the artist at age ten performing in a school production of The Sound of Music. The young Simon is singing Edelweiss, surrounded by fellow students, all, unlike him, blond.
The work consists of a video which is screened on a flat screen monitor as part of an tableaux consisting of two thick wooden beams, two framed photographs (the artist as a child with members of his family and with fellow cast-mates of a school play), traditional cowbells, and electric candles. The monitor is placed on one of the visibly aged wooden beams, while the second one is installed above, visually framing the projection on bottom and top. Pictures and electric candles are dispersed on the two beams, while the cow bells are suspended from the lower one.
