Etienne Chambaud Flat Source Negative #6, 2014
Photograph produced from acrylic scratched negative
30 x 45 cm (unframed)
90 x 123 x 6 cm (framed)
The series Flat Source Negative marks a conceptual gesture: the negative of the photograph of a landscape—or of the image of a landscape—is crossed-out with a blade. After printing the image—which is the framed photographic print, Flat Source Negative –the negative is sealed within an aluminium box and buried at the exact location marked by the cross on the image. A certificate engraved on the top of the box defines the conditions of its being: only unopened will the box remain an artwork.
The photographs are taken by the artist, either at the location or from a computer screen displaying the image of a landscape. The locations are not disclosed.
