Etienne Chambaud Contrapposto, 2018
Contrapposto was produced by a series of casts and re-mouldings. The elaborate process which included moulds and casts from an actual hand in plaster, silicon and wax, results in a final object made from crystal. Apart from the traces of the physical impression of the hand—the fine lines and crevices of the human skin—the object also shows the imperfections of this development. The fingers seem to have collapsed into the interior, small bubbles can be seen encapsulated in the material. Left unpolished, the material remains somewhat opaque, a contradiction with the brilliant transparency usually associated with crystal objects.
