Sarah Buckner Alice, 2025
41,4 x 56,4 x 2,8 cm (framed)
Executed in pencil on paper, the delicate, finely drawn work depicts a seated child apparently embracing a wolf's head. The child appears too be using the wolf as a kind of defense, helping her to face the world. Entitled Alice, the work refers to Buckner's frequent source of inspiration: Lewis Carroll's Through the Looking Glass. The work is characteristic of Buckner's dreamlike subject matter, often combining fantastic and fairy-tale-like motifs.
