Ryan Gander’s sculpture So I see (So I see, the light is changing constantly, as is your perspective) consists of a short flight of three steps set alongside a low wall, made from internally illuminated acrylic panels emitting a bright glow of white light. The acrylic panels are semi-transparent. The work is a part of a series that depicts architectural elements, namely glowing stairs and doorways. As the artist states, these installations function as evocative portals, potentially leading to other, unknown realities, or time travel. However, as the viewer is not allowed to step onto the work (and take a metaphorical leap), an actual experience can only be imagined.
