General Idea Study for Fontana, 1993
Acrylic on cut canvas
30,5 x 23 cm (unframed)
40 x 32,4 x 5 cm (framed)
In 1993, shortly before the death of Felix Partz and Jorge Zontal from AIDS-related illness in 1994, General Idea produced Study for Fontana, appropriating Italian artist Lucio Fontana's iconic cut canvases, or "tagli", produced in Milan between 1958 and 1968. The bright red canvas features three clear cuts, reminiscent of Fontana's Concetto spaziale, Attese, 1959.
