Walking sticks, ruler
Variable
Untitled Chart (Wall 2) is composed of six walking sticks of different sizes, from Japanese brand Daiso. Each cane is partly covered with a colorful $2 price tag. In Singapore, Daiso shops are famous for selling all their goods at a single price of $2. The artist has placed all six sticks against a wall, together with a curved wooden ruler, creating a decreasing line similar to a chart. With their rainbow-like shades, the price tags form a color gradient. For the artist, the circumscribed function of a ready-made object is more important than the object in itself. By leaving them unmodified, Gabriel Kuri intends to make them untouchable, emptying them from their original status of commodities.
