Martin Boyce Our Love is Like the Flowers, the Rain, the Sea and the Hours, 2003
77 x 240 x 57 cm (yellow element)
77x 101 x 57 cm (black element)
325 x 250 x 250 cm each, approx. (3 trees)
The three fluorescent sculptures that form the core of the installation are derived from drawings by Martin Boyce of the shapes of young trees or saplings. Two floor sculptures call to mind the form of benches. Their construction relates loosely to designs by Jean Prouvé.
The work was originally produced for Boyce’s solo exhibition Our Love is Like the Flowers, the Rain, the Sea and the Hours at Tramway in Glasgow in 2002. In that context numerous neon trees and benches, trash cans, a large fence and other spatial elements evoked the idea of an urban park.
