I had this idea to insert this black void into the series. You could think of it as a changing of the film reel, a glitch or a pause. Of course, it is always nice to find an excuse to make one’s own black monochrome. It also echoed the [British Minimalist artist] Bob Law work in Painting 1, another work in the series. I had thought of a yellow rectangle or introducing a single thin white stripe, reminiscent of a scratch in a film but opted for pure black.
