David Claerbout's diptych Paris, Genoa brings together two photographs of statues in cemeteries. The photograph on the right depicts a female figure on the famous Parisian Père Lachaise cemetery, the one on the left the statue of an older men found on Genova's campo santo (also known as Staglieno Cemetery). Depicted in similar poses, the elegiac figures, taken from distinct environments, appear joined in the act of mourning.
