Seoul New offices and showroom
Esther Schipper gallery is very pleased to open its first location in Asia. Headed by chief executive director Sunil Kim.
We have had the unique opportunity to grow along with the development of the Korean art community and as a gallery we will be celebrating the launch of our first location in Korea with a unique project space in the Gyeonglidan neighborhood of Seoul. This opening coincides with two international art fairs taking place in Seoul at the beginning of September: Frieze Seoul and KIAF. At KIAF we are presenting a solo booth with Roman Ondak’s historical performative work Clockwork and an updated survey of our gallery artists for the first edition of Frieze Seoul.
Eschewing a solely market focused gallery model, the idea of the dedicated space follows a core commitment to creating conversations and interactions between cutting edge, historically significant art and our local and international audiences. The space will feature two intimate showrooms, two offices and a rooftop deck with expansive views of the Namsan area.
Esther Schipper Seoul, is situated in the Geyonglidan-street area of central Seoul in a newly renovated building designed by studioMDA.
The Gyeonglidan area has recently emerged as a central hub for the Korean art scene with both international and emerging Korean contemporary galleries relocating here. For the opening, a selection of new and important works by artists of the gallery will be presented across the three floors of the building.
