Stefan Bertalan Ein Bild Herrn Kober gemacht, 1994
81,6 x 61,6 x 4,2 cm (framed)
Identified as a portrait by the title, the figure constructed from colored collage elements seems to describe a human figure. At the same time, forms are fragmented and put together helter-skelter from other parts that could be objects, plants or other figures. Some appear recognizable: a ladder, a human face, flowers as arms. The work is from a moment in Bertalan's practice when his depictions of anatomy progressed into geology and cosmology. Depictions of conflating body, structures, organisms and cosmos hint at his personal history and trauma.
