Etienne Chambaud Suspension, 2026
Suspension consists of a tulip stem suspended horizontally bearing a blossom at each end. Cast in bronze and carefully painted to resemble a living flower, the sculpture presents an impossible botanical form. Hanging from a fine cable, it appears to float in space. By replacing the plant’s base with a second blossom, the work puts into question the plant’s polarity and life cycle. Initially appearing as a naturalistic representation, the sculpture presents neither a cut flower nor a living plant, but a form that suggests the persistent condition of being cut without any identifiable cut.
