Rosa Barba Thick Harmonies, 2026
Thick Harmonies is a new addition to Barba's ongoing series of kinetic wall sculptures. Within a square frame of steel and glass, a tightly wound spool of 35 mm film is suspended in a circular formation. A concealed motor sets the spool into slow, continuous rotation. The work is backlit, light passing through the glass plane and the layered film stock to activate the material's characteristic red-maroon translucency — a principle structurally analogous to that of projection itself, in which light transmitted through a transparent medium generates the image.
