Karolina Jabłońska Pickled Beets, 2025
71,7 x 51,8 x 4,5 cm (framed)
Presenting her distinctive figurative style, with Pickled Beets Karolina Jabłońska explores the politics of everyday life through quotidian subject matter.
In Pickled Beets, a jar rendered in vibrant pinks and reds becomes the focus of the composition. A hand longs into the jar’s opening to grab one of the beets, their vinegary juice dripping from the fingertips. Jabłońska’s expressive use of color, undulating lines and distorted perspective, call attention to the wide range of art historical sources that have influenced her practice. For example, the distortions offer parallels with the Italian Mannerist Parmigianino and his work, Self-portrait in a Convex Mirror which the artist cites as one of her many painterly references.
