Executed in oil on canvas, this large-scale work, Taking a Head out of a Jar, depicts a monumental head submerged in a glass preserving jar filled with amber liquid. Two arms, sleeves pushed back, reach in from above. Strands of dark hair drift across the face, and the eyes remain open, looking outward through the curved glass. The jar stands on a wooden surface against a pale gray ground. The compressed viewpoint and heightened color are characteristic of the paintings in which Jabłońska's own likeness serves as a generalized alter ego: watchful, yet estranged from its domestic surroundings.
