Better known for her studio works, which thrive on the tension between seeming at the same time spontaneous and highly composed, Kelm’s motifs include images of landscapes that have a similar quality: the scene of ponies in the landscape has an unstaged, pastoral quality, yet the surroundings may not be the natural habitat of these animals.
