The work Ludwig Foundation Aachen, Mantelpiece, shows a section of a room by a fireplace with a number of different objects from different periods. Among them, a Baroque candlestick, porcelain from the Biedermeier period and in the center of the scene a chinese vase on the mantelpiece. To the right is an ornamental stucco decoration on the wall. This photograph is representative of Annette Kelm's practice, a still life between documentation and staging - frontal with clear, bright light. As the title suggests, the picture was taken at Haus Ludwig in Aachen, once the home of Peter and Irene Ludwig and now a foundation and art collection. Built in 1953, Haus Ludwig in Aachen can best be described as a work of art in itself. Objects from different eras and genres are displayed in this unique house with such care and personal attention. The Ludwig Foundation occasionally invites artists to reflect on and interact with the house and its collection, as they did with Annette Kelm, as some of her works are in their courtesy and in the permanent collection.
