Knallerbsen und Feder is a work from Annette Kelm’s series of floral still-life arrangements. The work depicts a playful composition of snap pea plants in white and pink placed next to each other with a sturdy metal spring and colorful ribbons. The metal spring is a recurring object in her flower series, as the factory of these springs is located next to her studio – two ribbons in yellow and red flow playfully through the arrangement, creating a connection between the objects that have been placed together. At both the top and bottom of the image, one can see where the fabric ends. One aspect that Annette Kelm reveals in her work is the process behind the photograph, as a self-referential gesture is at the core of Kelm's practice, whose works are always imbued with a deep knowledge of and reflection on the medium of photography and its history.
