Annette Kelm Rittersporn, 2025
92 x 69 x 4 cm (framed)
The work is from Annette Kelm's series of still lifes combining objects and flowers or plants. The compositions include deliberate formal inconsistencies in the alignment of the bright paper backgrounds, drawing attention to the act of arranging the motifs. A characteristic of these works is the tension between organic materials and human-made objects, here a white plastic bucket, re-purposed as a plinth for the glass vase holding the flowers. The self-referential allusions to studio photography, to the artificiality of its staging, are a characteristic gesture in Kelm‘s practice, whose works are always imbued with a deep knowledge of and reflection on the medium of photography and its history.
