These three abstract figures recall a surrealistic sculpture by Max Ernst. The motionless forms are actually the three hands of a clock, dismounted and stabilized on metal feet. Time is a central theme in Afif‘s work, conceptually connected with the work's title Monuments: time is remembered. Afif disturbs the state of things by representing the inherently kinetic concept of time in a static way, and adorning the steel with white gold in the style of luxury watches. This sculpture belongs to a series of works sourrounding the theme of time – for instance Blue Time (2004) with its ticking clock, and Hours (2004), in which 59 lightbulbs illuminate in sequence to arrange darkness only at the 60th minute.
