Saâdane Afif The Laguna's Tribute (A Corner Speaker in Venice), 2015

For the 56th Venice Biennale, Saâdane Afif reinterprets his Speaker Corner concept. The gravitational centre of the work is presented at the Arsenale within the main exhibition, as an ensemble of texts and posters. Whilst a performance is held everyday in a remote location, at Zattere bank. Here, by the water, a bronze soapbox serves of pedestal to an orator who recites the lyrics facing the laguna, his back turned against the beholders. The bronze sculpture being installed close to the edge, it will be marked by elements such as wind and water, and these marks will stand for the passing time of the Biennale.
