Tuan Andrew Nguyen Repercussions, 2026
Repercussions is a monumental sculpture with kinetic and interactive elements that can be used to produce sound. The matte black sculpture, designed in the vein of Alexander Calder’s stabiles, is architectural in its size and form.
The work’s arches echo images of tracer fire and the limestone hills surrounding Chùa Hương. This region in Viet Nam is known for the Perfume Pagoda, a historic Buddhist pilgrimage site between Hanoi and Huế. The artist’s grandmother, Ðặng Thị Lạc, a poet and former newspaper editor, had once sought shelter there and brought the artist to visit during his first return to Vietnam in 1998.
