Camille Henrot No Message, 2016
Camille Henrot’s No Message is a bronze sculpture incorporating an aluminum laser disk. A large, arched bronze form frames several suspended elements, including a reflective disk and a teardrop-shaped bronze pendant. The patinated surface shifts between earthy brown and green tones, contrasting with the metallic brightness of the disk.
The work brings together monumental bronze and a technological object associated with storing and transmitting information. Yet the title points toward the absence of communication: the disk remains present as a material object, while its message is inaccessible or withheld. Henrot frequently examines the systems through which knowledge, memory, and experience are organized and circulated. Here, the technological reference is placed within an open, bodily structure whose curved forms suggest an enclosure, support, or threshold.
