Ugo Rondinone siebterjulizweitausendundfünfzehn, 2015
Graphically simple and conceptually strong, Ugo Rondinone’s Cloud paintings command a profound visual force. Standing close to three meters high, Rondinone has created paintings that summon a remarkable sense of volume and depth from a physically flat surface. Each work is executed in an alluring variety of blue pastel hues, applied as a dilute acrylic solution with a sponge onto a uniquely shaped canvas. This technique blends the pigments together into a seamless graduation of radiant color, giving the work an ethereality that recalls the vaporous consistency of clouds, as well as the way they glow in the sunlight.
