Ryan Gander Looking for something that has already found you (The Invisible Push), 2019
Ryan Gander's 2019 Looking for something that has already found you (The Invisible Push) is an interactive, immersive work whose workings—a modified air supply that —remains hidden from the viewer. Installed in an otherwise empty space, visitors entering the room will only notice the effects of a light breeze. Looking for something that has already found you (The Invisible Push) plays on the notion of what an art work is, if there is no visible material form.
The expansive installation is characteristic of Gander's approach. Evoking fictional spaces, institutions and figures, his work is extremely varied, unified more by a conceptual vision than by formal appearance. It often combines fictional presence and absences, creating objects that refer to events, other absent objects, art works or persons, both real and imaginary.
