Dimensions as installed in the gallery exhibition: 399 x 2040 cm
Animal Vegetable Pentagon is a large-scale wall painting based on pentagonal shapes, regular and irregular ones. The pattern stretch across the wall (and, as installed in the artist's solo exhibition Animal Vegetable Mineral, across a corner). Near its center two sections overlap, creating a myriad of geometric forms. The monumental work refers both to the geometric pattern in ancient mosaics, as well as to the gridded spaces in which virtual reality environments are created.
Wall paintings are an integral part of Angela Bulloch's practice. While they relate to her earlier cartoon-based wall drawings from the early 1990s and the graphic representations of her Rules Series works, the relationship to sculptural works was formalized in 2000 when she transferred onto the wall a two-dimensional version of the Pixel Boxes.

Her wall paintings bring together Bulloch's interest in systems, patterns and rules, and the artist's preoccupation with the history of shapes with her recent engagement with digitally distorted basic geometric shapes–polyhedra which she has also explored in her series of sculptures known as stacks.
