Ceal Floyer Half Full, 1999
The two works Half Full and Half Empty each display a photograph of a glass that is halfway filled with water. The only difference between the two images is their title and that they were developed from two different negatives. When both works are presented simultaneously, they should be installed in such a way that the viewer can never look at both at the same time. Taken together, their titles refer to the expression that suggests it is a subjective judgment to say a glass is "half-full" or "half-empty" and therefore reflects the outlook of the person judging, not the actual level of water in the glass.
