Ceal Floyer ...again and..., 2012
64,3 x 47,4 x 3,5 cm (framed)
At the center of a white sheet of paper, the words 'again and again' have been written countless times in black pen. Through the repeated superimposition of the letters, the words gradually become illegible — their function as a means of communication is deliberately rendered useless. The work enacts a double repetition: both in content, through the reiteration of the phrase itself, and in method, through the physical act of writing it over and over again. This obsessive approach to repetition is a defining characteristic of Floyer's artistic practice, and is encapsulated here in a gesture of striking simplicity and clarity.
