Heliotrope consists of a mechanized heliostat controlled by a computer program. The motorized colored mirror redirects sunlight and creates a dynamic colored light beam.
Heliostats have appeared in previous exhibitions: for instance, at the Rockbund Art Museum in Shanghai, in 2017, and more recently in Echo2 at Bourse de Commerce, Paris (2022).
COMPONENTS INCLUDED IN SALE
– 1x Free-standing heliotrope (powder coated steel, colored mirror, motor, control unit, cabling).
– 1x Control unit box for heliotrope.
– 1x Network and 1x power cable with EU socket.
– 1x Ethernet switch with 1x power cable and extra Ethernet cable (20 m of each).
– 1x computer with monitor, keyboard and mouse (for remote access).
– Archival hard disk with program.
– Certificate of authenticity.
COMPONENTS NOT INCLUDED IN SALE
– Space conditioning, if required.
– Installation of artwork (1-2 days): 1x local art handler (1 day), 2x person from Toolman Custom Berlin (1 day, flat fee incl. travel to be quoted), 1x person from Atelier Parreno, Paris for site-specific programming/choreography (1 day, 1500 EUR fee + travel and accommodation).
– 1x local electrician for local wiring.
– 2x Ladder.
– 2x Scissor lift.
– 1x Crane or portable crane (depending on the sights height).
– 1x Fork lift with straps (depending on site).
– Extra network and power cables, if required.
– Extra cover cables, if required.
– Foundation cement, if required.
INSTALLATION SPECIFICATIONS
– The sculpture weighs 350 kg approx.
– Suitable for outdoor installation. Installation in climate with extreme humidity may require modification to control unit box. Specificity of climate to be evaluated by work's producer in order to determine necessary modifications and possible associated extra costs.
– Work requires direct sunlight (at least for several hours per day).
– Control room adjacent to exhibition space for computer and Ethernet switch is required (internet connection and remote access software required for maintenance) – max. 50 meter distance.
– Power source (16A) required, additional power supply is need for the computer.
– Heliotropes must be connected to the computer with their own distinct network cable (Ether-cat).
– Cabling (power and network) can be visible on the floor or hidden. Artist studio should approve cabling aesthetic prior to installation.
