Julia Scher's Security By Julia X imitates the surveillance desk of a security company. Three mini surveillance cameras, various control equipment and monitors are mounted onto a console that has been spray-painted in a pink Gulf War-era camouflage pattern—borrowed from Andy Warhol's 1986 Camouflage (Pink). A pink vinyl cap left on the desk indicates the presence of a guard, while a sign misinforms visitors that the security guard on duty will be back in a moment. A closer look at the monitors reveals that the alleged surveillance images have been manipulated, mixing live footage with fake feeds of whipping and torture scenes.
