Kriska aluminium curtains
305 (max height) x 488 x 288 cm (120 1/8 x 192 1/8 x 113 3/8 in)
⊂⊃ is part of Daniel Steegmann Mangrané’s ongoing series of colored aluminum works. Widely used in Spain, Kriska curtains can function as flexible screens for entryways. They are light, often brightly colored and make a characteristic metallic sound when the chains touch.
Conceived for the 2018 group exhibition Space Shifters at the Hayward Gallery, London, the work was presented in dialogue with the architectural properties of the site: the elliptical shape of the curtains echo those of the Hayward Gallery building's distinctive concrete staircase with its massive round landings.
Oscillating between appearing as diaphanous screens and semi-solid objects, the curtains are both indications of a transition (meant to be traversed, marking the end of one space and the beginning of the next) as well as sculptural objects, existing in a hybrid state between corporeality and immateriality.
COMPONENTS INCLUDED IN SALE:
– Set of curtain chains and connection brackets for installation directly on the ceiling and floating (suspended) from the ceiling
– Installation manual
– Certificate of authenticity
NOT INCLUDED IN SALE:
Curtain rail, 3 mm stainless steel cable (for installation from ceiling), hanging points, screws and plugs, tools (flat screwdriver, drill, water level, tape measurer, Allen key number 8mm, high quality pliers), bubble-wrap or other material to cover floor during installation (curtain needs to be lain out on floor).
INSTALLATION SPECIFICATIONS:
– The artist should be consulted prior to the installation and should receive a complete documentation of the chosen space in order to adjust the dimensions of the work.
– The detailed installation parameters such as exact position, shape of the curtain and dimension of the curtain rail are site-specific and need to be determined in discussion with the artist's studio or gallery.
– The rail can be directly attached to the ceiling or hung floating from the ceiling. The work can be adjusted according to the ceiling height.
– 1 square meter of Kriska chain curtain weighs 3 kg approx.
– The duration time of each installation is variable, approximately 1 day is for a work of this size and complexity.
