Daniel Steegmann Mangrané Dog Eye, 2020
The work consists of a collage and a slide projector. The collage, assembled from realigned geometrical sections of a photograph, is installed flush with the wall, covering a hole (just slightly smaller than the dimensions of the collage). A video projector shines from a distance through the hole, illuminating the collage from behind and creating a pattern of light at several of the collages cuttings. This creates the impression of an internal illumination, not easily explained without having seen the set up on the other side of the wall. The image of the dog eye which is the basis of the collage, refers to the artists 2020 film Fog Dog, filmed at the Institute of Fine Arts of Dhaka, where numerous stray dogs live and seem to lead a parallel existence to the daily life of the art school’s human inhabitants.
