Daniel Steegmann Mangrané Metamorphing Map, 2022
Metamorphing Map is from a series of works consisting of marble fragments installed on the wall. The flat pieces are arranged according to a pattern that can be only intuited. The Metamorphing Map then has a palpable internal logic yet its appearance is also reminiscent of forms in nature: snow drifts, ripples in the sand or other sediments, as well as, references in the work's title, larger formations: maps of archipelagos or drifting continents. In this context, the medium is also important, as marble constitutes a record of processes that over centuries turn stone into another rock.
