Daniel Steegmann Mangrané Ramita with gold accents, 2025
Beech branch and gold pins
36 x 31 x 7 cm (14 1/8 x 12 1/4 x 2 3/4 in)
Paring three circular golden elements with a small twig, Daniel Steegmann Mangrané's work juxtaposes organic and human-made shapes and materials. Part of a small series of unique works, the position of the three pins, some of which hold up the twig, varies in each iteration. The play between the three differently sized geometric shapes and the undulating lies of the twig creates a subtle, dynamic tension of forms.
Formally, the artist's delicate sculptural works, made of modified organic material or resembling organic objects such as bark, leaves and twigs, explore the emergence and migration of forms between different formal registers in nature, art and architecture. The organic materials are paired with classical geometric shapes associated with human-made forms and, in a broader sense, with human systems of knowledge such as geometry and mathematics.
