David Claerbout The Aquarellist (hokusai), 2026
64 x 49 x 4 cm (framed)
Executed in ink, felt pen, acrylic pen and pencil on paper, the work belongs to a series of sketches made by David Claerbout in conjunction with his video work The Aquarellist. The new work will present a painter drawing in nature, specifically on a cliff overlooking the sea. Drawing on a range of representations of both nature and the artist's role within it, the sketches recall landscapes seen in Romantic imagery from Casper David Friedrich to photographs of holiday painters.
