Francesco Gennari Ma, non so in effetti quali siano i miei reali sentimenti / But I Really Don’t Know What My True Feelings Are, 2010
Copper, iron, brass, silver, nickel
Dimensions vary depending on artist's emotional state
The work consists of three bars of equal size, all made of different metals but plated in silver. For Francesco Gennari, the work constitutes a metaphorical self-portrait in which the artist express his own duality: the appearance cannot be trusted to understand one's feelings. The work manifests a recurring idea in the artist's oeuvre: the impossibility of representing the self accurately. Characterized by its conceptual consistency, Gennari's work draws from a cosmology of recurring shapes and divergent mediums (Murano glass, bronze, marble, gin, mint syrup), selected not for their outward appearance but for their inherent specificities. The installation of the work depends on the artist’s emotional state: it can either be installed in a triangle, in parallel lines, or in one uninterrupted line.
