Avendo se stessi come unico punto di riferimento/Having Oneself as Sole Point of Reference belongs to a series of eleven black and white photographs, all depicting the same situation: a snail placed upside-down, on its shell, on a dollop of whipped cream. The animal thus finds itself immobilized, unable to get out of its tragic condition. Only its antennas allow it to be aware of the world around it, as the English translation of the title suggests: having oneself as sole point of reference. Each photograph of the series presents the snail in a slightly different position. The soft and delicate whipped cream creates a striking contrast with the rigid shell of the snail.
