Martin Boyce Somewhere There Are Trees, 2022
The work consists of gently crinkled fallen leaves made of paper. Somewhere There Are Trees blends nature and artifice and implicitly invites the outside world into the interior through the presence of these wax-coated paper leaves, which, as if moved by a breeze, collect in the corners across the exhibition space. The shape of the leaves recalls the angular shapes of Boyce's long-standing formal reference point, the 1925 Concrete Trees by Jan and Joël Martel.
