Lotus L. Kang You are already III, 2026

Lotus L. Kang's You are already III consists of strings of cast aluminum, bronze anchovies and bronze lotus roots intertwined with chiffon and metallic twist ties. These strings hang from a stainless steel colander suspended from the ceiling. Hanging on string, the arrangement recalls how fish or other foodstuff have been traditionally conserved by drying them naturally. The metallic surface of the small cast fish is reminiscent both of the way the scales of live fish shimmer in water and of a mobile or chimes made of glittering objects. The references to anchovies is a recurring motif in Kang's practice, invoking the artist's Korean-Canadian diasporan roots and family history.
