Introduction
Inspired by the legendary song Over the Rainbow from the famous musical film The Wizard of Oz (1939), the exhibition pays homage to the music, colorfulness and diversity that characterize the ESC. The rainbow, a fascinating natural phenomenon created by the interaction of sun and rain, is the central theme of this collection showcase, which revolves around light, water and the power of color. Works by Claude Monet, Vincent van Gogh, Paul Cézanne, Henri Rousseau, Pablo Picasso, Wassily Kandinsky, Piet Mondrian, Max Ernst, Alberto Giacometti, Mark Rothko, Francis Bacon, Andy Warhol, Marlene Dumas, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Elizabeth Peyton and Wolfgang Tillmans will be on display.
The highlight of the presentation, Rondinone’s spectacular rainbow light sculpture we are poems, 2011 is installed on the roof of the museum especially for the ESC.
