Introduction
Hito Steyerl's first solo exhibition in Vienna is titled Der Menschheit ist die Kugel bei einem Ohr hinein und beim anderen herausgeflogen. It opens at the MAK Museum on June 24, 2025 and will be on view through January 11, 2026.
The exhibition's title paraphrases an aphorism by Karl Kraus, one of the most important Austrian writers of the 20th century, published in his collection Nachts in 1918. The exhibition includes two works: Steyerl's latest video installation Mechanical Kurds (2025), which will be specifically configured for the presentation at MAK, as well as the earlier installation Hell Yeah We Fuck Die (2016).
