Introduction
With Who’s Iconic? – Paintings, Drawings and Maquettes From the Whoseum of Who the Baer, the G2 Kunsthalle presents a solo exhibition by Simon Fujiwara. The exhibition focuses for the first time on the creative process of the works: In addition to paintings, drawings and maquettes are shown, which serve as preparatory studies preceding the paintings.
In Fujiwara’s series Who the Bær, the British-Japanese artist allows the genderless, nationality-less, identity-less bear character, established by him in 2020, to invade art history, pop culture, and the art world. He imitates the styles of well-known artists, questions existing structures, and rewrites art history.
