Jiwon Kim 김지원 One hundred persimmons 감이 100개 열렸다, 2025
Jiwon Kim’s One hundred persimmons subtly sidesteps the imagery typically found in still life paintings with understated humor and simplicity. The black rubber planter, which you might find anywhere on the street in Korea, as well as the Persimmon tree, found throughout Korean landscapes, offer an Eastern pivot on the Western still life tradition. Yet, the artist eschews gravitas, opting instead for the cheekiness of calling this painting “one hundred persimmons.”
