For Ancestral Graveyard-Landscape 43, Nosik Lim arranged and depicted multiple objects without regard for scale or perspective. The canvas is coated in transparent oil pastels to blur the contours of the space and objects therein. Through this process, the artist sought to capture the “air”—or even the “ether”—present in the scene. Yet, what ultimately floats to the hazy surface is the layer that exists between representation and the self.
