Min Joung-Ki is a first-generation Minjung or “people’s art” artist. His landscape paintings visually reconstruct the clashes and fractures within Korea’s modern history, as well as memories and affects connected to this historical period. Min’s work has recently focused on the complex social structures revealed by geographical landscapes, which he paints after walking around the specific location as if to create a map.
