Since his solo exhibition in 2019, Sungsic Moon has been working on a series of paintings of roses. Here, he appears to have fundamentally recalibrated the relationship between artist and motif by introducing a new surface: aluminum foil. Whereas the lines seen in his previous works directly reflected the artist's movements, the lines on foil—demanding care when applying pressure, with attention to speed—cannot but reveal the distance between artist and motif.
