Introduction

The thirteenth edition of the exhibition project Stufen zur Kunst at the Künstlerhaus Hannover is realized by artist Jenny Brosinski.

Two sculptural works enter into dialogue with in situ wall paintings in the stairwell of the east wing of the historic Künstlerhaus.

Brosinski consistently develops her work from the medium of painting. Characteristic of her widely discussed practice, now represented in numerous collections, is the application of paint to unprimed canvas. Her distinctly contemporary compositions emerge between risk and experiment, drawing on references from pop and subculture, shaped by chance as well as precise, deliberate gestures.

Mistakes that already ended & stories that may never be true (“Fehler, die bereits passé & Geschichten, die möglicherweise nie wahr sind”) unfolds across four floors of the east stairwell of the Künstlerhaus, forming an inspiring landscape of abstract painting that continually opens up new perspectives. Along the “line” as a central element of her artistic vocabulary, the installation repeatedly leads the viewer toward a new suspended sculptural work. Brosinski’s well-known sculpture I Was Looking at All the Life (“Und ich schaute auf all jenes Leben”), in the form of a bronze unicorn, is also part of the installation.
