Liu Ye grew up during China’s Cultural Revolution and his work often makes oblique and stylistic references to the propaganda movement of that period. His iconography of cheerful colors and distinctive figures are reminiscent of illustrations found in children’s books and shows the influence of the artist’s father who was a graphic designer and illustrator.
